Poets Foundation was established in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, on 18th December, 1996. It was registered under Society Registration Act, bearing no. S/85496 of 1996-97. It has a registered office in Kolkata, with 17 centres in different states of India and 7 centres abroad.

The society was inaugurated on 17th May, 1996, at the Lake Club Ltd, Kolkata, in the presence of eminent poet-author-administrator-social activist, Mr. Sunil Gangopadhyay, Mr. Samarendra Sengupta, Mr. Shibaprasad Sammader, IAS, Mr. Ardhendu Chakraborty, Mr. Pradip K. Chaudhuri and others.

It is a non-profit making, non-political, Government registered, Educational-Literary-Cultural-Social organisation. All activities of Poets Foundation is controlled and governed by a Governing Body, which is advised by an advisory board.

The society was founded by Mr. Pradip k. Chaudhuri, and engineering graduate, post-graduate in Business Management from Tokyo, Japan. Currently, Managing Director of 3 large Public Sector undertakings of Govt. of West Bengal and visiting professor with 45 years of versatile experience in Industrial and Educational field. He is also the General Secretary of the Poets Foundation and is assisted by Deputy Secretary, Assistant Secretary and other competent office bearers and staff.

Dr. Pratap Chandra Chunder, former Minister for Education, Social Welfare and Culture, Govt. of India, was the 1st President of Poets Foundation, till 2008, the last day of his life. Thereafter, Professor Dhruba Narayan Banerjee, former administrator of Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Secretary of West Bengal Legislative Assembly, has been the President,
till date.
